As we noted in our end of year presentation, climate action at work is getting more difficult. Waves of tech layoffs, pressures to adopt genAI, rising cloud emissions, and the politicization of climate action are increasing the risk for tech workers to take climate action. All the while, our planet’s vital signs are flashing red.
That is why we want to encourage and support CAT members in taking climate action together throughout 2025.
Each month, we’ll focus on a specific climate action challenge from a tech worker’s perspective. We’ll also provide resources and host events to support the monthly action challenge. The events will be an opportunity to act together, spark ideas for further action, and support accountability.
This is a CAT community-led project. Members are invited to suggest actions and help host events – both online and in person. Just log in with your CAT Slack account to view the CAT Action Calendar project page in the CAT knowledge base and add your suggestions.
February & March actions
As a warmup, we’re hosting our first action-focused event on Friday, February 28 – the day of the Economic Blackout boycott. We are encouraged to withhold from making purchases, especially from large companies like Amazon.
Instead of shopping, we’ll be repairing and mending what we already have. Our Economic Blackout & Life Fixup event will be a chance to bring your own high- or low-tech fixup project to work on while having a chill chat with fellow CATs about consumer activism & the tech industry. RSVP on Luma.
In March, we’ll take inspiration from Digital Cleanup Day, do some digital decluttering, and look at our dependence on big tech. We’ll be announcing the monthly action challenges and supporting events through the Slack community, so be sure to join the CAT community if you’re not a member yet and would like to get involved.
